General Information (Volunteer Schedule to be posted late December)

· Games will be played starting on Saturday (1/1/11----New Years Day) starting at 12:30 PM with two games played during the day. Teams will play once on Sunday (1/2/11) with game times of either 12:30 or 2:00 PM. The final game will be a tournament championship game between division winners on Sunday (1/2/11) @ 4:00 PM (or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the 2:30 game). All games will be played at Poolesville High School (using two gyms).
· Home team noted in schedule is required to wear light uniforms and keep official book for individual games. Home team is responsible for reporting game outcome to tournament director.
· Individual trophy t-shirts will be awarded to tournament winners.
· Admission for tournament is $5.00 per person. Coaches on bench and players only are admitted free of charge. Admission will be good for entire day of purchase.
· Concessions will be available for purchase. Bring empty stomachs!
· Each individual team must supply their own towels, water, and first aid supplies. Locker rooms will be available for use by teams.
· Coaches, Players and Parents are all expected to be on their best behavior (this is a Holiday Tournament, after all!). Any coach, player or parent that is ejected by referees or by the tournament director for unsportsmanlike behavior will likely cause their team to forfeit their remaining tournament games.
· The tournament is limited to 8th Grade (or younger) players. We will be going with the "honor system" on this policy.
· The goal of the tournament is to create a positive experience for the players. There is no minimum playing time requirement for the tournament, but please try to do the right thing for the kids.
· You'll need to submit a roster to Jim Brown via email by 12/27/10 including player name, number, school attending, and grade level. Please email it to jimbrown.sales@gmail.com.
· All players will need to sign a waiver before participating---no exceptions!
· Make out your check (for $255.00) to the PBA, and then mail it to the PBA at P.O. Box 332, Barnesville, MD 20838.***Note---your position in the tournament is NOT guaranteed until we have a check in hand.
· Specific game times will not be decided until December 24.

Tournament Structure
The tournament is made up of one eight-team bracket. Each team plays three games total. The top two teams will play in the Tournament Championship on Sunday afternoon. Tie-Breaking Procedures for the Division winner and runner-up will be based on the following:
1. Overall Record 
2. Head-to-Head competition (in the event of a three-way tie, if head-to-head does not work or is nullified proceed immediately to least amount of points allowed overall.
3. Least amount of points allowed overall in division play (or overall only if there is only one division).
4. The team that allowed the least amount of points in any one game.
5. Coin Flip

All Games will be played according to the National Federation of State High School Association rules with the following exceptions:
1. 7-minute quarters, with 10-minute warm-ups, 8-minute halves, and 3-minute overtimes.
2. Time Outs: Three full and Two 30 second time outs per game. One full additional time out in O.T.
3. A team may not apply full-court pressure in the second half of a game when leading by fifteen (15) points or more. No warnings will be given. The penalty will be a "team" technical.
4. IAABO referees will be working the tournament.

Waiver/Consent Form

The participant assumes all risks associated with participation in the "Sugarloaf Shootout" Holiday Basketball Tournament. The PBA, also known as the Poolesville Basketball Association (including board members and coaches) and Poolesville High School (PHS) officials assume no liability for injury or damages arising from participation in this tournament.

Due to the strenuous nature of some athletic competition, the PBA encourages each participant to consult his physician concerning his own fitness in order to participate in the tournament. The participant consents to emergency treatment if warranted and will not hold the PBA or PHS liable for any such treatment or its outcome.

The participant also consents to PBA use of any photographs and/or videotapes that are made of the tournament. Assuming the participant is a minor, the parent or guardian approves of his or her participation in this tournament.
